Configure Recycle Bin and alert settings in SharePoint

Recycle Bins are used to recover the data. We have two stages in Recycle bin, first stage and second stage. When user deletes an item, item will sent to first-stage of recycle bin, when an item is deleted from first-stage, item is sent to second-stage recycle bin. We have turn on and configure the settings for recycle bin on web application level, it will applies all the site collection in that web application.

To track changes in SharePoint for a web site, we have alerts and e-mail services. By configuring the alerts we can receive or send to keep track all the changes in SharePoint List/Libraries, List Items/Library Items. We have to configure Out Going e-mail settings for SharePoint farm before configuring alerts.
We can configure Recycle bin settings and alert settings for SharePoint web application using the steps below,
Navigate to Application Management in SharePoint Central Administration, Click on Manage Web Applications link.
Select web Application to configure settings, Select General Settings on the ribbon.
On the Web Application General Settings page, Recycle Bin section, to configure Recycle Bin by setting On or Off. By default it will be set to On. We can specify the time after items in the Recycle Bins are deleted. By default it is 30 days. Percentage of live site quota for second-stage deleted items setting is for the second stage recycle bin. By default it is 50 per cent. We can make that Off if site collection administrators cannot recover the items from end use recycle bin. We can set second-stage recycle bin setting from 1 to 500.
In the Alerts section Select alerts On or Off. By default it will be set to On. We have to specify Maximum number of alerts that user can create in a SharePoint web application; By default this value will be 500. We can specify this value from 1 to 2,000,000,000.
Click On Ok Button to save configuarations.
